The glass with phosphorus pentoxide (P2O5) as the main component material is called phosphate glass. A mixture of phosphate and fluoride glass is called fluorophosphate glass. Similarly, there are phosphosilicate glasses and aluminophosphate glasses. These glasses are also commonly used as laser gain media.

1. Phosphate glass has a much lower fiber damage threshold and a much lower thermal conductivity than silica glass.
2. The transition temperature of phosphate glass is low, about 365 °C.
3. The nonlinear coefficient of phosphate glass is very low, 3 times smaller than that of quartz glass.
1. Phosphate glass can be used as low dispersion optical glass or other special glass.
2. The application fields of phosphate glass cover laser fusion, laser weapons, laser ranging, optical communication waveguide amplifiers, and ultra-short pulse laser applications.
